Parcevall Hall Gardens

Yorkshire Dales·Susan Briggs· 1 minute
Many people won't have heard of Skyreholme, much less the magical secret gardens there. Parcevall Hall Gardens are hidden in a fold of the Yorkshire Dales at Skyreholme, near Appletreewick. The gardens were created over several decades from 1927 and get better and better.

Parcevall Hall Gardens benefit from a beautiful (hilly) site that combines alkaline soil in one area and acid soil in another. The planting includes rhododendrons, old apple varieties, alpine and woodland plants.

There are formal terraces (where you can enjoy the view of Simon’s Seat), woodlands, rose gardens, rock gardens, each with a very different feel and type of plants. There are around 24 acres in all, and countless excellent views.

The original creator was Sir William Milner, who also pioneered the development of Harlow Carr Gardens, Harrogate.

From here, you can also enjoy a walk into Trollers’ Ghyl. You can’t visit the Hall itself (it’s a retreat house), but there is a good tea room with excellent brownies!

When are you going to visit? Or maybe you've already discovered this gorgeous spot?
